I'm borrowing this from one of my readers, I hope he doesn't mind. We're also going out of our comfort zone this week, hold on tight.
A local politician has decided to do something special for a retired member of your service and has suggested dedicating the new firehouse to the retired firefighter. Being on the community committee, the vote is 3-3, and you have the swing vote on this decision.
When you suggest a plaque and a ceremony, the politician informs you that will not be enough. He hands you this rendering of the sign in front of the firehouse:
You make the call.
There will be no monday morning results, so get your comments in.

I would only approve it if his name was Mike Hunt!!!
Sounds like the plaque and ceremony would do.
This a firehouse and if it needs a name it should be the name of the community it is serving, because it is their firehouse. Since it is new, its history has yet to be made, but it will be made by ALL those who serve from this house not just one individual.
If this gentleman needs to be honoured for something other than 35 years of service, find another way to do it. If he is being honoured because of 35 years service, then maybe a plaque in the firehouse where he served. Seems to me we are going to need a lot of new fire stations to be able to honour everyone who has completed that many years and even more. And, how do we honour those who give their life?
BUT
as this involves a politician, we need to look at ramifications for the current department. Is this guy big enough/well connected enough to harm the department if he doesn't get his wish? If denying him will hurt the current brothers, he gets his wish. I don't have to like it, but I have to do what is right for the members and the taxpayers first.
