FDIC 2019 First In Engine at Multi Casualty Incident

FDIC is almost here!

This year I'll be bringing back First in Engine Multi Casualty, a class focused on the Engine Company being first in on an MCI.  We discuss pre-planning, setting expectations of your Company and how to make the first 90 seconds go smoothly.  This year I've expanded on some of aspects of initial reporting as well as elements necessary to pass along to the Chief as you transfer command.

Leave your vests, tarps and fancy tags for later, this is the nitty gritty of MCI Initial Operations.

I'm also expanding on the roles we give each of the riding positions with scenarios and questions specifically geared to that position. This was mentioned in the feedback last year that the scenarios we mostly command based, so I changed it up!

For example, here's a sneak peek at the scenario for the Engine Driver, who establishes the RED treatment area:

Since the Engine is only focusing on the Immediate (red) patients, the driver is given the following questions to go with this scene:
  • Why is the woman tagged yellow but is walking?
  • One man is tagged green but the others are not tagged at all, do you tag them?
  • Is the woman's bleeding a concern?
  • Did you notice the red flagging on the car seat?
  • What if mom (yellow) and dad (green) want to stay with the baby (red) in the red treatment area?

All these issues, and more, will be covered April 11th, 1:30 at Engine Company MCI!

 Hope to see you there!
